Therapy Intensives
When You Want the Issue That’s Been Plaguing You Resolved Yesterday
Does this sound familiar? You’re in your weekly individual or couples therapy session and it feels like you’re just getting into the issue when the time runs out. Frustrated, you emerge from the session feeling like nothing’s changed and you’re not looking forward to having to restart the conversation again in a week.
With intensive short-term psychotherapy, you can take a deep dive into the issue at hand without the interruption of weekly breaks. You get to stay in the flow of the therapeutic process, following insights and retaining skills that lead to lasting change. An intensive can provide immediate support to navigate challenges effectively.
Faster Progress, Accelerated Healing
Therapy intensives would be a good fit if:
You have a busy schedule or do frequent travel that doesn’t allow for weekly therapy sessions
You’ve been grappling with the same issue for a long time and it doesn’t seem to be improving
You’ve hit a plateau in your weekly therapy sessions
You’re going through a major life event, such as a break-up, a recent death, a new baby, divorce, or a career change
You’re looking for rapid personal growth
Therapy intensives would not be a good fit if:
You have complex trauma or multiple traumatic experiences that need to be addressed
You and your partner do not have the same goals for what you’d like to address in therapy
You’re looking for a long-term approach to address multiple areas of concern
Individual Therapy Intensive for Recurring Challenges
Something from your past keeps interfering with the life you’ve worked hard to build
You may be outwardly successful and capable, yet still find yourself struggling with something that doesn’t seem to resolve. You might notice the same emotional or relationship patterns repeating, feel chronically on edge or mentally preoccupied, or carry a persistent sense of being stuck—despite years of insight, effort, or prior therapy. There’s often a quiet frustration in knowing you’re capable, yet still not feeling fully yourself.
Whether you’re navigating the aftermath of a major loss or life transition, feeling stuck in long-standing emotional or relational patterns, or carrying the weight of an experience that never fully resolved, an individual therapy intensive can support you during this vulnerable time. It’s possible to experience meaningful relief, insight, and change—without having to stay stuck for months or years.
Couples Therapy Intensive for Relationship Issues
You don’t know how to move forward with the way things are now
It’s hard enough to manage your own challenges, attachment style, and mental health without also adding another person with their particular personality, traumas, and attachment style into the mix. Maybe you’re growing your family and want to strengthen your relationship before the big transition ahead. Perhaps you’re navigating the aftermath of an affair or betrayal, and can’t see the way forward. It may be that you’re going through a separation or divorce, and need to learn how to navigate this transition as successful co-parents.
Whether you’re overwhelmed parents wanting to build a stronger foundation, working through the aftermath of an affair, or disconnected partners unsure how to move forward, a couples therapy intensive can support you during this challenging time. Know that it’s possible to experience understanding, more intimacy, and growth fast.
How Therapy Intensives Work
Therapy intensives with Well Parent Therapy are designed to fit your schedule, needs, and goals. Typical formats are listed below, but a therapy intensive can also be tailored to your personal needs and circumstances.
-
Once determining we’d be a good fit to work together following your consult call, we’ll schedule your intake session ($240, 50 min). Your intake session will establish our therapeutic relationship, clarify your goals and the current obstacles, and create a plan to reach your desired outcome.
Next, we’ll schedule your therapy intensive in increments of 3.5 hours ($900, two 90-minute sessions with a 30-minute break). Together, we’ll get to the root of the issue bringing you into therapy. Before we close, we’ll review your progress, identify and address any continued challenges, and ensure you’re able to integrate the new insights in your daily life. -

You May Be Intrigued by Therapy Intensives, but Still Have Questions…
-
I understand that the idea of diving deep into emotions for hours at a time can feel exhausting or intimidating. Perhaps you have a fear of emotional burnout or re-traumatization.
Intensives with Well Parent Therapy are structured with breaks and coping strategies to prevent overwhelm. I tailor the pace to each person’s needs, balancing deep work with grounding techniques. My goal is for you to leave feeling more grounded and hopeful, not overwhelmed and depleted.
-
Not at all. Many couples pursue a therapy intensive because they’re tired of “almost fixing” things. They may still function well day to day—but feel disconnected, stuck, or worn down by recurring conflict.
An intensive can also be about prevention and repair, not last resorts, for example in the case of a pre-baby couples therapy intensive.
-
Intensives are available at my Pasadena office or via telehealth for people living anywhere in California. Some people like to make their therapy intensive into a weekend retreat, particularly for those outside of Los Angeles. I can provide recommendations for accommodations and local services if desired.
I understand that sometimes life gets in the way of our best intentions, especially for parents and those with demanding jobs. Since the scheduling of a therapy intensive involves setting aside time especially for you, a minimum of 72 hours notice is required for rescheduling or canceling your intensive. If we can reschedule your intensive within one month, your rescheduling fee will be $300. If you cancel with less than 72 hours notice, I will charge 50% of your intensive fee.
-
That’s a common fear—and also something intensives are designed to support. I will create structure and emotional safety so conflict becomes productive rather than overwhelming. The goal isn’t to eliminate disagreement—it’s to learn how to repair and reconnect afterward.
-
A short term therapy approach doesn’t mean shallow work. Intensives often go deeper precisely because there’s time to slow down and stay with hard conversations instead of postponing them.
Many couples leave with:
Clear insight into their patterns
Practical communication tools
A shared roadmap for moving forward
-
While intensives may seem costly compared to weekly therapy rates, they often lead to faster progress, potentially reducing the total number of sessions needed in the long run. The cost reflects the nature of therapy intensives as a premium service that requires more work, energy, and time set aside just for you.
I hear you on the skepticism that deep healing takes time and can’t be rushed. While no therapy is an instant cure, intensives offer deep work that might otherwise take months or years to accomplish in weekly therapy. While there are no guarantees, many people experience breakthroughs and gain valuable coping tools. Follow-up support in the form of future therapy sessions is also available to help integrate what’s learned. Many people use intensives as a catalyst for lasting change and return for “tune-ups” as needed.
